Ford Tesla EV charging deal puts pressure on GM

Ford Motor and Tesla have announced a surprise deal on electric vehicle (EV) charging technology and infrastructure that could put pressure on other automakers’ EV strategies. Starting early next year, Ford owners will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US and Canada. Keen to be the first automaker to explicitly tie into the network, Ford’s next generation of EVs are expected to use Tesla’s charging plug without the need for an adapter. The Ford-Tesla deal could be a negative for GM, Stellantis and other automakers that don’t have access to as many fast chargers. Tesla currently boasts around 45,000 Supercharger connectors worldwide, according to the company.
